I'll Be Back

Image
Transfer time—y'all ready for this? 'Cause I don't know if I am. But I'm headed up to the northern part of South Texas to the coasts of Corpus Christi! After six months of being here, it's finally time for me to say goodbye to La Joya. Definitely very bittersweet, because I'm excited to go to a new area, but I'll definitely miss it here—especially all the people. No worries, though, I'll be back. I was initially going to be transferred to Robstown, but things got switched up, and now I'm going to Corpus. I know there's a reason, and that I'll be able to do what the Lord needs me to there and help the people in that area receive the gospel. As for my last week in La Joya, it was a great time. We kept on the grind and helped our friends keep it up. Our friend Stephen (the adventurer who knows about the supernatural) came to church and will be baptized next week! I'm a little sad I'll miss it, but I'm super excited for him. The weath...

We Scare Because We Care

This week was sort of wacky. Last week, we met a guy named Stephen Jr., who is the son of an inactive member. He has been talking to us about the call to adventure and his experiences hunting monsters and dealing with the supernatural. We went by to visit him, and he told us about some abandoned mines nearby, a man-bat creature that lives there, and smoke wolves in the area. He’s called the area "Monster Valley." Needless to say, it’s been super fun talking to him. Also, the title this week has to do with monsters purely because of Stephen. Despite all the crazy monster conversations, he told us he wants more peace and direction in his life and wants to grow his relationship with Heavenly Father. We taught him about the gospel of Jesus Christ, and he accepted a date to be baptized! I’m so excited and happy for him and that he recognizes how the gospel will help him in his life. This week, we also had the chance to help with a McAllen citywide cleanup with a whole ton of missi...

I Don't Like Sand

Happy Easter yesterday to you all! I hope you realize how truly significant and life-changing the Savior's life was and how much joy comes through the life of Jesus Christ. We had an eventful Easter yesterday when Elder Tanner and I were driving down a dirt path that, because of all the rain this week, was very muddy. What happened next was that the truck got stuck in the mud, and I had to get out and push. I got a little muddy and dirty, but we got out and didn't have to call a tow truck. Long story short, I don't like sand (or mud). Immediately afterward, we got pulled over by border patrol because we came out of the woods with mud all over our truck, looking like we had just driven through the Río Grande. We stopped, and it took the officer one look to realize we were American missionaries and not illegals. Despite getting stuck and then pulled over, we were on time to dinner with some recent converts and had an awesome and spiritual conversation with them at the end. Th...

I Want More, But I Know I Shouldn't

Hard to have such an amazing General Conference and not want more. The incredible spirit that was felt during that Conference, as we heard the Lord's prophet, apostles, and other servants speak, provides the peace, love, and guidance of Jesus Christ in our lives. Hope you all had an awesome week and enjoyed General Conference as well. This week was both long and short. We started off by inviting our friend Kevin to accept a date to be baptized on the 23rd! We also asked his sister Suledy if she would be baptized, and she said yes as well. We haven't set a date with her yet, but hopefully, she can be baptized with her brother. We've been able to continue teaching our friend Fernando, who truly wants to change his life. We called in Bishop Lopez from our ward, who bore a strong testimony of the true change that comes through Jesus Christ, His gospel, and His restored church. It's been amazing to see Fernando's desire to follow Christ and to feel the Spirit helping us ...
