I Can't Move Me Legs

It's been a quick but packed week.

The first week in an all-bike area has made my legs a little (lot) sore, especially considering I had a bike crash this week. (Only the second one on the mission, so not bad). After I crashed, we went to a nearby gas station where I cleaned off the dirt, mud, and blood. I also got a gas station hot dog and a pepino-limón Gatorade. It definitely made me feel better and distracted me from the pain.

My new companion, Elder Bodner, got bronchitis from the black mold in our apartment, and apparently, missionaries in the past have had it too. That’s why the mission department decided to move us into one of the renovated apartments, so that’s what we’ve spent most of our P-day doing.

All in all, being here in Corpus is so much different than in the Rio Grande Valley. First, being that I’m in a coastal city rather than a small border town; second, there’s a much larger diversity of people here. It’s strange being this far north, but it’s been fun.

We’ve also been asked to go to the nearby hospital to give blessings to members there from other neighboring cities, and it’s been such an amazing and humbling experience to be an instrument in the Lord’s hands to help them in their trials.

Last night, we had a really cool experience where I felt like we should go by a guy named Fred who had been taught in the past. We went by and felt like we should share a scripture in Alma 29 that talks about the plan of salvation and why the gospel of Jesus Christ is so important in this life. He had tears in his eyes and got choked up as he told us we’d come by at the right time and that’s exactly what he needed to hear. We testified to him that he could have peace in this life as well as live with his family forever after this life, and we invited him to be baptized. He accepted! Later that night, we were finishing up the day sitting outside a Whataburger making calls when a guy came up, introduced himself as Carlos. He told us he’d talked to the missionaries in the past, and when he saw us, he knew he needed to talk to us. He told us about some of his struggles and how he wanted to find the joy of Christ in his life. It was really cool, as it showed us how much the spirit testifies and leads us to where God needs us, just as long as we’re willing to listen.

I continually pray for you all and appreciate all the love and support, as well as the communication and encouragement I receive. It truly makes my day/week/month/transfer/mission.

Sincerely,
Elder Teeples

Last week's email: I'll be back
Movie: The Terminator

At the end, when he's leaving, he turns around and in his Arnold Schwarzenegger voice menacingly says, "I’ll be back."
