Another Day, Another Doug

¿Qué padre, cuñado?

Not very much happened this week, but somehow it was eventful at the same time. I got a new companion, Elder Tanner, who only has eight weeks left in his mission. He's also my fourth companion, and this is my fourth transfer. Mostly because I started in a trio, but it's weird to think I've had as many companions as I've had transfers. Guess I'm just meant to stay in the same place but with different people.

(Before I move on, please view the frog painting in the pictures at the end of this email. It's my favorite.)

I can tell I'm getting much more used to the heat and humidity here. At the beginning of the week, I was completely fine in 90° weather, but toward the end of the week, I was sort of cold when it got down to 55°. When it gets like that, all the people dress like we would for below-freezing temperatures. It's pretty funny. Not the best for biking around and talking to people outside, but the Lord provides a way.

Despite the weather, we've been able to find a bunch of cool people this week and have really seen the fruits of talking to absolutely everyone we see. I've probably been everywhere in my area already, but that doesn't mean there aren't still people the Lord needs me to meet. As we've followed the Spirit, we've found people at the exact moments they've been outside and have been able to talk to them. Small tender mercies, for sure.

The last thing to share is that the people here, especially the members, are always willing to give, despite really not having much. It's really shown me how much the Lord blesses those who are willing to give. They may not be the most blessed materially, but their joy and energy are amazing.
Alma 1:25: "Now this was a great trial to those that did stand fast in the faith; nevertheless, they were steadfast and immovable in keeping the commandments of God, and they bore with patience the persecution which was heaped upon them."

I love this gospel, I love my Savior, and I love the opportunities to help people hear it and come closer to Him.

Love you all. Thank you for helping me become the person I am now.

Adiós,
-Elder Teeples

Last week's email:
"He's tricky like that Jesus."

Movie: Hunt for the Wilderpeople
Kind of a lesser-known movie, but at one point, Taika Waititi (director of the movie) plays a priest in a church. He's asked a question and just goes, "Yeah, Jesus. He's tricky like that Jesus."
