Reach For The Sky!
¿Qué onda?
This week we got to see Border Patrol in action. We were teaching on an older lady's front porch in a small border community called Cuevitas. All of a sudden, a truck zipped by, hit some train tracks, and crashed as their front axle broke and the tire came off. We then saw two Border Patrol SUVs speed toward them with their sirens blaring. Then at least 10 people jumped out of the crashed truck. Four of them ran toward the woods, while the rest put their hands behind their heads. The Border Patrol officers all got out, yelling for them to get on the ground in rapid-fire Spanish. We heard guns clicking, kids crying, more patrol cars pulling up, and even a helicopter nearby. Reach for the sky indeed.
You're probably thinking that story is exaggerated, but I promise it's not. Elder Dahl and I were freaking out, while the lady we were teaching was calm and told us she's lived there for 50 years, and this wasn't out of the ordinary.
Finding this week was slow and difficult, but we were able to work with members, do some service, lead a mission prep class for the youth, and even got two people back on baptismal date after they surprised us and showed up to church.
Eduardo has been having trouble on his journey to change as he's battling giving up drinking. He hadn't shown up to church, so we let him know that while we loved teaching him, he needed to take the steps or we couldn't keep teaching him. Something must have clicked for him because he came to church and brought his son Luis. After church, Luis told us that in church it was probably the happiest he'd felt, and he wanted to keep feeling like that. Both Eduardo and Luis are super excited to progress, and the plan is to baptize them the first week of February!
This next week is going to be a doozy. One of the Assistants to the President is going to come be in a trio with us for a day tomorrow. The day after, one of the Zone Leaders is going to come here with me on an exchange, and the day after that, another Elder in our district is going to work my area with me on yet another exchange. I'm sort of nervous, but I know I'm ready and that the Lord will guide us.
Love y'all, until next week!
