I Must Break You

Image
Buenos afternoon! This week has really pushed me, but it's been great at the same time. But more about that later. We have 5 people on baptismal date! Four of them are brothers: Vidal, Omar, Ivan, and Kevin. They're the sons of a really sweet woman named Vanessa, who's a recent convert. She's awesome and so happy for her sons and their decision to receive the gospel. The boys are all so cool, and you can see an eagerness in their eyes that shows they're feeling the Spirit. Our other person on baptismal date is a guy named Raul. He's had a really tough life filled with drugs, alcohol, gang activity, and loss. He truly wants to change and grow closer to Jesus Christ, and it makes me so happy to see. He truly gives thanks to God for helping him find the gospel, and when we taught him the commandments and Word of Wisdom, he replied, "Hermanitos, but that's easy, I already know that doesn't bring happiness, only God." I definitely think we could ...

This Is Getting Out Of Hand, Now There Are Two Of Them!

Hey everyone, I made it to South Texas and couldn’t be happier to be here helping others learn about Jesus Christ. Traveling was weird because I was all alone, but I made it. Happy Thanksgiving! (¡Día de Acción de Gracias!) Since most everyone here is Mexican or South American and they don’t really celebrate Thanksgiving, they just call it Día de Pavo, which means Turkey Day. But we had a mission conference and a holiday P-day, so email time! As for the title of the email, it’s because I’m now in a trio! My trainer is Elder Dahl, who’s from Tennessee. He’s super spiritual, very helpful, and patient with me as I know absolutely nothing about the area since it’s only my third day. My other companion is Elder Wilson, who’s been out for two months, so this is his second transfer, and he’s also still training. Elder Dahl is double training! (Extra special blessings for him because that’s gotta be surprising.) We have three in our room and five in the apartment, so it’s a bit cramped, but ...

As You Can See, I'm Not Dead!

Hey everyone! Little did I know when I titled my last email "You got heart, kid, where you from?" that the "where you from" part would matter. Turns out it did, because that's where they decided to send me while I figured things out. Being released as a missionary and going home was one of the hardest things I've experienced, but it made me realize how much I truly want to serve God and preach His gospel. The fears of leaving the MTC and getting to the mission field have just melted away, and now I can't wait to get to Texas. Speaking of which, as you might have guessed from the email title (as always, extra points if you know what movie it's from), I'm good to go back out on my mission! My appointment with the cardiologist went perfectly, I don't have any heart complications, and I got my travel plans to head out Monday the 21st! This whole experience, while difficult, has truly been filled with miracles. From being able to recover enough...

You Got Heart Kid, Where You From?

Okay, so my p-day has been busier than my normal days, which is quite backwards, but oh well. This morning we had breakfast earlier, had a "preparing for the field" devotional (which was quite good, but that's not the point), an unchangeable baptism appointment at the temple, and a Spanish proficiency test that gave me a slight panic attack (turned out fine though, but also not the point). I then had to go with my companion and the other elders in my district and wait while they waited to get their hair cut. It all turned out good and was a pretty sweet p-day, but writing and sending an email definitely took a backseat. But it's fine because here we are. Anyways, as for the title, I got the results for my heart monitor, and they didn't find any problems! (Hats off if you know who said the quote and who he said it to.) The one downside is that they might need me to check in with the cardiologist and possibly get delayed a week, which I seriously hope doesn't...
